Mercedes Benz repainted in polar white. You should see it

It is not commonplace for a client to walk into a body shop and request for a colour change within the same colour spectrum. Typically, colour changes tend to be from one colour to the other e.g black to silver, white to red and so on. If you have observed Mercedes Benz closely, then you must have spotted some units with the eye catching arctic white paint finish. It is normally mistaken for pearl but it is just a solid white. For this project (Mercedes Benz C200 Kompressor Avantgarde), the owner wanted a colour change from Calcite White to Polar/arctic White. To the eye, Calcite white has a hue that is common with most other car manufacturers, more like the mainstream white.

In addition to the colour change, the rims and front grill were also to be resprayed plus headlight restoration. As always, with any paint job, we include the complementary detailing package for the interior, engine bay and the body for that showroom type finish.

With scope and timeline (two weeks) established, we got down to work and started off by removing the metallic chrome dotting the car exterior. The headlights and tail lights were also taken off for internal cleaning as the inside contained debris. This was followed by repair of the panels which had dents and deep scratches. These were filled and readied for a round of primer paint.

The panels were then coated in a white undercoat (surfacer) in preparation for painting later. The post undercoat stage is very important because it is the last opportunity to fix any defects on the panels.

A two stage painting process followed next where the basecoat was applied and finished off with a two pack acrylic clear coat for a long lasting glossy shine. Drying in the oven at 60C for 40 min was then done. The front bumper, side mirrors and front door handles were also repainted separately.

With painting done, it was now time to work on the wheels and other smaller components which are quite a handful on this car.

The car was then buffed and put back together and moved into the cleaning queue for a round of our specialty – steam detailing service for the engine bay and interior.

Ready for the results? after 14 days of work, the C200 now sports a pristine Polar white finish that is contrasted neatly by the chrome on the outside and the black interior. This car is now ready for a parade!
