When Mazda’s Soul Red Crystal (code 46V) is the paint finish on your car, the last thing you want is an accident. This is because you could easily end up with mismatching panels after the repair is done given that it is one of the few 3 stage paints along with pearl white that are difficult to match. The paint isn’t cheap either!
Enter Mazda CX-5 2017 model which had just been rear-ended and needed a quick fix. The owner preferred not to replace the boot and bumper which both had some damage luckily, these were all fixable.
The task at hand was clear: repair the rear end damage without replacing the boot and bumper, both bearing visible signs of the collision. The goal was ambitious: achieve a near-perfect color match while avoiding the costly endeavor of blending into adjacent panels. In addition to this the whole car was going to be buffed and detailed.
Repair started with straightening the dented parts of the boot, filling and sanding. The bumper was also heated a little and aligned before being reconstructed with fiber filler since it had a tear. Priming followed next.
With body repair works out of the way, it was time to seal the boot and bumper in the silver mid coat which serves absorbs and reflects light at the same time. A little putty application followed to fix any imperfections and this was then coated in the silver mid coat for a uniform surface.
The transformation truly came to life with the application of the red top coat, the soul of Soul Red Crystal paint. Watching the rich red hue gradually envelop the silver mid coat was a deeply satisfying experience. 3 coats of 2 pack acryllic clear coat followed and then a 30 minute baking at 60C.
With the paintwork complete, our focus shifted to the intricate process of steam detailing, revitalizing the interior and engine bay to match the renewed vibrancy of the exterior. Buffing added the final touch, enhancing the car’s luster to perfection.
