A Refreshing Upgrade: The Toyota FJ Cruiser’s Full Respray Adventure

From bare metal to a slick black gloss and pearl white finish, see how we fully repainted a Toyota FJ Cruiser with upgraded rims, brake calipers, and more!

When the Toyota FJ Cruiser arrived at our spa, the left side of the car was nicked, cracked, and missing several coats of paint due to the poor quality of the paint that was previously done. We had no choice but to strip it down to bare metal to ensure durability and long-lasting results. This allowed us to start over to prevent rust and increased repair costs in the future.

The upgrade begins

We cleaned, sanded, and covered every inch of the body that didn’t need painting. Then we prepared the stage for the new paint using a primer for the black metallic and pearl white coats. We followed the process from the primer to the top coat, giving each section time to get a fresh coat of paint before we applied the next coat.

Body Respray and Baking

The roof, previously painted Pure White (058), was upgraded to Pearl White (070) for a clean and shiny look. Next up was the body. We upgraded it from the standard black paint (202) to a metallic black paint (218) that gives it a distinctive color and metallic black flakes.

Rims And Calibbers

Then came the time for the originally gray rims, but we gave them a gloss-black finish. This gloss finish gives a sporty look from a distance and perfectly matches the new body color. Our customer also decided to change the color of the brake calipers from grey to gloss red, and now they match the gloss black rims and contrast the black metallic body.

Wrapping Up

Finally, we inspected the defects, polished and sanded the body of the FJ Cruiser to a gloss finish, and decided to do some interior detailing to give the car a new breath. With its pearl white roof, black metallic body, gloss black rims, and gloss red brake calipers, the FJ Cruiser stands out in the showroom finish.
